Against all odds

I took a good few minutes looking at this before even being able to writ anything ;O. The detail is amazing! Its really well done, the drops on the petals are just so sharp. I try to do this with my macro pictures and I cant seem to get it as sharp if you have a secret let me know! The face is a really interesting shape but doesn't distract which i think is important. What is the background? It looks like snow? I assume its rain but it looks like snow because of the shape. If you feel like sending me info on how you did this id be super in love with you ;3.
